Blog: Mario Galaxy soundtrack is powerful stuff
October 19th, 2007
I don’t know about you, but to me, a video game’s musical score plays a large part in determining it’s greatness. A game can be truly awful in every other aspect, but I’ll still play it to hear the ice level’s theme again.
There hasn’t been much talk about it, but Nintendo’s got something really great planned for Super Mario Galaxy’s soundtrack. They’re using a live orchestra for several of the game’s tracks, and the result is stunning. Give these two songs a listen… it’s way beyond what I expected.
Man, Galaxy’s going to make me feel like I’m eight again. At least I won’t have to blow out the cartridge to get it working.

Believe me the game’s so wonderful, and with such a strong soundtrack and sound design backing it up, the whole thing is just rapture. I’ve been feeling this ‘magic’ while playing it and you’ve just described it to me, I’ve never been able to figure out exactly what it was but, I feel like I’m 8 again when I’m playing, that wonder I feel, it’s like when I was a child and discovered something.
